Nebraska Wesleyan University graduate Matt Wishard ('24) is charting an ambitious path from the fields of biology to the political arena.

Wishard, of Elkhorn, Neb., graduated with a degree in biology in May and aspires to create change by merging his scientific background with his passion for agriculture and politics.

McKenna Weber (鈥�25) of Lincoln, Neb., has received a study abroad grant from The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation鈥檚 oldest and most selective collegiate honor society across all academic disciplines.

Kaitlyn Georgiana (鈥�24) wants to turn personal tragedy into breakthrough stem cell research for expectant mothers and babies. 

Assistant Professor of Spanish Manuela Borzone has received Nebraska Wesleyan University鈥檚 Faculty Scholar Award for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Nebraska Wesleyan University has announced its 2024 spring semester academic honors list for students enrolled in traditional and adult undergraduate programs. 

Traditional undergraduates:

Simon Highsmith (鈥�25), a sociology major from Centennial, Co., is the winner of this year鈥檚 Dean B. Stewart Award for Courage.

Highsmith has been chosen as the 2024 recipient for their courage in overcoming adversity and determination to finish their degree despite a debilitating medical condition.

Rachel Maceri, assistant professor of exercise science, has been named Nebraska Wesleyan University's Advisor of the Year for 2023-24. 

One student nominator says Maceri helped her pass a chemistry course that was required for her degree after she considered dropping the class after the first exam. 

Kellen McLaughlin ('24) says he recently learned there鈥檚 only one way to fix a pothole.

鈥淚f there鈥檚 a pothole in the ground, there鈥檚 not a Democrat or Republican way to fill that pothole. You just fill it.鈥�

Sandra K. Mathews, PhD, is this year's recipient of the university's top teaching award, the Margaret J. Prouty Faculty Teaching Award.

One nominator says, 鈥淪he challenges my view of the world and encourages me to seek the truth of history鈥� Mathews also pushes students to take responsibility for their own education and encourages them to be their best.鈥�

A Nebraska Wesleyan University student will study abroad this fall in South Korea after receiving the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship.

CeCe Nguyen (鈥�25), a psychology major from Lincoln, Neb., will study at Ewha Woman鈥檚 University in Seoul as part of the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP).
