Nebraska Wesleyan University鈥檚 Elder Gallery will open a show September 20 featuring some of the best contemporary hand-woven tapestries from across the world.
鈥淎merican Tapestry Biennial 8鈥 will run September 20-November 15 in Elder Gallery, located inside the Rogers Center for Fine Arts, 50th Street and Huntington Ave.
The American Tapestry Alliance presents an international juried exhibition every two years. The ATA鈥檚 newest exhibit opens at Elder Gallery. More than 60 tapestries 鈥 large and small鈥 by 54 artists will be on display. Artists hail from the United States, France, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, United Kingdom, Germany and Peru. The exhibit was juried by Rebecca A.T. Stevens, consulting curator of contemporary textiles at the Textile Museum in Washington, D.C.
A reception will be held Friday, October 1 from 5 to 7 p.m.
This exhibit coincides with 2010 Textile Society of American Symposium scheduled for October 6-9 in Lincoln. A special reception for members of the Textile Society of America, guests and artists will be held Thursday, October 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Elder Gallery.
Elder Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday-Sunday, 1 to 4 p.m. Elder Gallery will also be closed on Friday, October 8 from 1 to 4 p.m.
The exhibit is free and open to the public.
