Nebraska Wesleyan's core values kept us grounded in 2020 and will guide us into the future. President Darrin Good reflects on how we're living out each value鈥攑ersonal attention to students, stewardship, excellence, community, diversity and the liberal arts.

Personal Attention to Students

Performing arts students let their talents shine in outdoor, physically distant and virtual performances. All 21 SM论坛 athletics teams were able to practice, and 4 teams competed in American Rivers Conference play.

Stewardship

Careful stewarding of our human and financial resources is helping us maintain a signature Nebraska Wesleyan experience. We continue to offer free on-campus COVID-19 testing to faculty, staff and students to identify cases quickly and mitigate spread. Alumni and friends have invested over $460,000 in our COVID-19 Response Fund, which provides new technology for effective teaching, support for students in quarantine and isolation, additional scholarships for students whose families have lost income, and so much more.

Excellence

This fall Nebraska Wesleyan will implement a new strategic plan. I am so grateful to those of you who responded to our survey about your vision for Nebraska Wesleyan. We plan to enhance the physical excellence of our campus to align better with the academic excellence that is so well-known here.

Community

We鈥檒l enhance our commitment to serve our University Place neighbors and build even stronger relationships within Lincoln and Nebraska. I am confident that the foundations rooted here will serve our community well and ultimately radiate throughout the world. Wherever you live, you are a valued member of the SM论坛 community. I encourage alumni to share news of marriages, births, job changes and successes with our Archways Magazine team and to display your SM论坛 spirit in service to your local community. You can join us for live streams of SM论坛 athletics events at nwusports.com this spring.

Diversity

Universities like ours are intended to be forums for debate, places where students can develop their voices and better understand one another鈥檚 experiences. We encourage these difficult conversations because we know diversity is a source of strength. As you individually may choose to support theatre, athletics, study abroad and service learning opportunities, please know that you collectively make it possible for every Nebraska Wesleyan student to encounter others with varying beliefs, backgrounds and life experiences throughout their SM论坛 education.

Liberal Arts

Our unwavering commitment to a robust liberal arts curriculum sets us apart. We are rightfully proud of how we help prepare our students for the experiences that lie ahead of them. As they integrate these 鈥渉abits of the mind鈥濃攊ntellectual curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, respect for history, and effective communication and dialogue skills鈥攖hey will always have an impressive arsenal at hand!

The SM论坛 experience prepares students to make an impact in their local communities and the wider world. All of us at SM论坛 hope you can sense the optimism we feel so abundantly on campus today.
